How to pull down the motivation of your workforce

Image
When a team/startup starts getting traction and money/fame starts trickling in, unsuspecting founders start feeling relaxed. It seems all the cogs of various departments are in working in tandem and now the only way left for the company is moving upwards in the value chain. But this situation can easily turn into "Boiling Frog" situation. Let us find out what brings down the motivation of employees in this post. Rise of pseudo workers Pseudo workers are those workers who are now whiling away their time at the expense of teams hard work. These people are usually the same people who helped you build the team/company in the first place. These associates are usually mid level managers and now enjoy fancy titles like director of engineering or head of product management or vice president of some unit. Usually they don't work directly at ground level anymore but take credit for all the original work done by their respective team.  Founders are generally reluctant to remove them...

Accepting oneself

When I was in school, I would imagine myself as an astronaut doing summersaults inside a space probe. It felt so real. I could vividly imagine water globules, pens, and my fellow astronauts flying infront of me. Once I failed to crack engineering entrance exam of IIT, even after taking a gap year, I realised something profound. Some of the things are way beyond my brains reach and no matter how hard I try, I won't be able to achieve them. Why am I sharing my sad uninspiring failure story, you might ask! Knowing your true worth is the most important aspect while building your career. I see lots of youngsters trying too hard to ach...

He was good at programming skills and had always wanted to build a website of his own. His friends got placed in companies like Wipro, Infosys and TCS but he couldn't even sit for those interviews as he didn't have the necessary cut-off CGPA score. A little disheartened, he went back to that same cyber cafe to play another session and have a lighthearted banter with the host of that cyber cafe. After 4 years.... He was still jobless and in his free time he had created a complete end-to-end social media website. He had been a buddy to the host of that cyber cafe and hence he didn't even had to pay for his time at the cafe. Even though the website was lousy and wasn't as famous as Facebook, people from foreign countries had become its member and were using it. With no source of inco...
